Why this practice exists, what I believe about work, and the kind of organizations I like working with.

Why I started this practice

I got into this work because nothing makes me happier than seeing people who love their job. You notice it as soon as you step into any workplace. The organizations that create those spaces are the ones where people are paying attention.

I have also seen the opposite. Organizations that are failing but do not know why. They restructure, replace people, tighten controls, push harder. But the answer is already in the building. People closer to the work can see it plainly, and some of them try to say so. What stops them is the culture. Not a policy, not a person, just an accumulation of small signals about what is safe to raise and what is not. That is how a problem protects itself.

Clients hire me for a compliance concern, a training, or the classification question, and those matter. But the call that changes things comes later. A leader needs an honest read on a person, a conflict, or a team, and needs it from someone with no stake in the outcome. That work requires trust. A leader has to be able to say what frustrates them and what keeps them up at night without being judged for it. That is a relationship, and it is built over time.

What I believe

Most of us spend more waking hours at work than anywhere else. That makes the way an organization treats its people a moral question before it is a business one. Dignity is owed to everyone. It is a floor, not an accomplishment. Everyone should be able to find meaning in their work. Meaning cannot be issued. It is built, and it is built by leaders who put people in work that fits them, tell them the truth about how they are doing, and leave them enough room to do it well.

When that happens, people stop doing the job and start doing the work. They notice things nobody asked them to notice. They fix things that were not assigned to them. Work stops being something they get through and starts being something they are proud of.

When it does not happen, the cost arrives anyway. People who do not feel valued will eventually show you exactly how valuable they were, or exactly how expensive they can be. It comes as turnover, or a claim, or a team that quietly stops trying. A leader pays either way. The only question is whether they saw it coming.

Every organization has blind spots. Not because leaders are careless, but because no one can see their own culture from inside it, and employment law changes faster than any owner running a business has time to follow. Finding those blind spots is not an indictment. It is maintenance.

Good HR is not just paperwork.
It is the discipline of noticing.
The background

What I actually love about this work

I have spent eighteen years in HR, and for the past nine of them I have consulted with small businesses and nonprofit organizations in the New Orleans area. I love this work. There is a special kind of energy in small organizations. It is passionate, it is creative, and it has purpose. Those are the leaders I want to work with.

Most recently I led operations at a New Orleans consulting firm, managing a team of seven consultants. Earlier, I built the HR function from scratch inside a public-sector organization.

Let's build something great together.
